About Deskhiker

We Work Where You Vacation.

Hi, I’m Mike.

I used to be a typical corporate developer. I had a dual-monitor setup, an ergonomic chair, and a view of a gray parking lot.

But every weekend, I was in the mountains.

One day, I asked myself a question that changed everything: “Why do I have to stop hiking just because it’s Monday?”

That question launched Deskhiker.

The Problem with “Digital Nomad” Gear

When I started trying to work from the wild, I failed miserably.

  • My “10-hour” laptop battery died in 3 hours.
  • My “rugged” hotspot had zero signal in the forest.
  • My back was killing me from sitting on rocks.

I realized that most gear reviews are written by tech journalists in air-conditioned offices, or by hikers who don’t carry laptops. No one was testing gear for the intersection of both.

How We Test

At Deskhiker, we don’t just read spec sheets. We take the office outside.

  • Real Power Tests: We drain power stations with actual MacBook Pros and Starlink dishes, not just lightbulbs.
  • Real Durability: We throw backpacks into the dirt and carry them for miles.
  • Real Work: If a chair isn’t comfortable enough for a 4-hour coding sprint, we don’t recommend it.

Our Mission

Our goal is simple: To help you cut the cord without losing connection.

Whether you are a software engineer living in a van, a writer on a sabbatical, or just someone who wants to answer emails from a mountain peak, we have done the trial and error so you don’t have to.

See you on the trails,
The Deskhiker Team
