About the Role:
The Tax Senior Associate is a key member of the team responsible for executing federal and state income tax compliance for 6500+ funds launched on the AngelList Venture platform. This involves sanity checking work that has been automated, preparing work that is still currently prepared manually, identifying and resolving exceptions, and addressing investor questions. The second part of the job is to help Belltower scale through product and process design. This requires understanding where our data currently is and how it is populated, understanding the relevant tax laws, and then defining how the tax rules should be applied to our data to arrive at outputs for tax reporting. This role is open for most locations in the US. The Tax Senior Associate will report to the tax senior manager. The Tax Senior Associate will work with other tax team members, members of the engineering team, and other cross-functional operations teams. They will analyze transactions where there could be tax reporting implications, respond to investor inquiries, drive automated preparation of US income tax compliance forms, participate in product testing for new products supporting tax and other functional teams, and identify opportunities to improve the efficiency and service offerings of the tax department.The ideal candidate will have 2-4 years of tax experience working in the broader asset management sector, with focused experience in the venture capital or private equity space. This candidate has experience with preparing and reviewing federal partnership returns and reviewing partnership agreements. This candidate will have the ability to effectively communicate with investors and portfolio companies at high volume and with polished professionalism. They also have experience identifying compliance obligations related to outbound foreign investments, state income tax returns and foreign inbound investor reporting obligations. The best candidate will also have experience with process improvement and automation.You will:
- Perform taxable income analysis
- Drive tax communications, both internally and externally
- Execute annual tax compliance
- Identify, Design, and implement process and product improvements
- Serve as tax advisor for funds
