Frontend Engineer in Within UTC-5 (US east coast/Peru) to UTC+2 (Western Europe/Egypt)

Hi there,

Timeular is on a mission to enable a more healthy and rewarding work-life for 10M+ people through better time management. 70,000 users have done so already.

We are looking for an experienced frontend engineer passionated about creating applications that are fast and simple to use.

You will be working closely with our backend, frontend, eCommerce developers, and QA engineers using CSS, Typescript, React, React Native, Redux, Rust and Electron.

The first couple of months you'll be working on:

  • Gaining confidence and familiarity with our frontend (web, mobile, desktop - depends on your preference)
  • Ship new features, remove unnecessary ones and solve bugs
  • Write snapshot and unit tests with Jest
  • Guide our QA people to test your implementations
  • Help discover issues to be tackled along the user journey
  • Suggest solutions to solve the issues and improve the daily life for ten thousands of people
  • Contribute to our open-source projects and maybe create new ones
  • Help our support team in case they get stuck in a challenging support case
  • Potentially open source and maintain useful parts of our apps

We know you can’t perform at your best from day one because everything is new and there is a lot of information to absorb first. That’s why you’ll get assigned an onboarding buddy right after joining Timeular to assist you while getting started with your new challenges and all the questions you might have along the way.

The minimum requirements are that you have already worked on at least one SaaS product with a couple thousands users as a frontend engineer and that you're a great team-player and communicator. Additionally, we only accept applications from people who live within UTC-5 (US east coast/Peru) to UTC+2 (Western Europe/Egypt) otherwise it will be too hard to schedule an occasional meeting with everyone.

Our way to work

  • 18 fully distributed people from 9 different countries and cultures. We do not discriminate on the basis of any factor and are looking to increase our diversity even more.
  • Communicate a lot asynchronously in written form without the urgency to respond to everything immediately. Mainly through Slack, Notion, and Gitlab.
  • Direct, honest and transparent culture
  • 40h workweek is enough, no nightshifts, plenty of uninterrupted time to focus
  • Few meetings, meeting free Thursday, but lot's of opportunities to bond remotely
  • Respect time: we show up, deliver, and proactively communicate in time. We respect everyone's private time unless there is a real (real, real, ...) urgency
  • Work when and where you want from UTC-5 (US east coast/Peru) to UTC+2 (Western Europe/Egypt)
  • Use quarterly OKRs to focus on what matters most and learn from our assumptions
  • Meet 3 times a year in one place for a team retreat (during the pandemic they are virtual)
What we pay and offer you to live a healthy life outside of work

  • The
transparent salary for this role at hiring ranges between 64,000€/$76,000 - 88,000€/$104,000
, depending on the city you’re in, your experience and your vacation days preference (see below).
  • After one year of working full-time at Timeular you can participate in the
    employee stock option pool.
  • Work where and when you want. You control your time.
  • 50 days of paid holidays (including national holidays) because we’ve learned that time off is the best source for great ideas. In case you don't want so many days off so you can choose to get 40 for +5% salary instead.
  • Three paid team retreats per year to spend an incredible time together discovering unique locations and amazing food. All costs covered. Now during the pandemic we host them virtually and it's still a lot of fun.
  • Paid parental leave and flexibility to adapt your work schedule to your family schedule.
  • Quarterly achieved objectives will be rewarded with
500€ - 1000€/quarter to invest in your health, growth, and workplace

About the application process

We don’t need resumes, we care about who you are today, what you have achieved so far and where do you want to go. And we don’t believe in time-consuming cover letters. We believe asking you specific questions is easier than writing a cover letter.

Our application process is pretty simple: we start by asking you a few questions in written form, you answer them the best you can, we read it and, if we like it, we jump on a call to get to know each other better. If that goes well, we do a test period so we both can verify our expectations and if we both agree, you’re in.

As we always get many applications it might take some time till we get back to you after having evaluated all the applications but we will get back.

Make your time count with us,

Team Timeular

Who you are 👀

— You are UI focused and love to craft beautiful web experiences.

— You like working in an environment where you are empowered to come up with your own solutions to desired outcomes.

Lead Software Developer in REMOTE (VIRTUAL LOCATION)

Table XI
Table XI is looking for a Lead Software Developer who can see both the forest and the trees.

Developing great products is about being equally concerned with building the right thing as building it well. For 18 years, we've built our software development practice around three small words and one big idea: tech done right. To us, it means more than clean code and sound design. It means doing right by our partners, by our peers and by our community.

Here’s what we expect from you

  • Lead projects, provide technical guidance, identify risks, proactively learn and share, and mentor more junior team members
  • Expertly develop both back-end and front-end code
  • Understand client's business, build relationships with clients, and guide strategic decisions to make client successful
  • Communicate professionally and empathetically, solicit and provide feedback, actively offer help, and make sure everyone is aligned
  • Guide architecture and implementation discussions, help unblock other developers, establish best practices for maintainability, and strategically balance test coverage, risk and budget
  • Take responsibility (even when no one asks)
  • Work collaboratively on a cross-functional team of developers, designers, and business analysts
  • Learn from everyone, no matter what their title is

Our Tech Stack
  • Back-end: we primarily create applications in Ruby on Rails and Node, though we have a small number of applications with other setups: Elixir and Phoenix, and Python and Flask
  • Front-end: For Javascript, we generally use React, though we have some apps that use Stimulus for when React is too big of a hammer. For CSS we tend to use Bulma or Material Design, and prefer to use styled components for React
  • Mobile: we support native iOS development in both Objective-C and Swift. These days, though, almost all of our apps are being built in React Native
  • Infrastructure: nearly all of our infrastructure is on AWS and managed by Terraform and chef. We are in the process of migrating to Docker containers in Kubernetes (EKS)

Don't hesitate if you don't have specific experience with our tech stack. We have a preference for folks with Ruby on Rails, Node.js or React experience, but if you’re a strong developer with experience in related tools, we want to hear from you!

Who We Are
We’re a curious and humble group who loves to define the future and help build it. Curiosity and critique are key to our chemistry. We’re always looking for new skills, frameworks, and approaches to deliver the most meaningful product and service experiences. And we’re constantly pushing ourselves to experiment, explore and challenge assumptions.

We bring that same passion for learning and improving to our clients: digging into their organizations, reframing their problem statements, and spending time with their users. This ensures we’re pushing our clients forward while designing valuable things people actually use.

Learn more about Table XI (video)

What We Make
At Table XI, you’ll get exposure to many different people and projects. Our clients trust us as strategic partners—advising decisions that impact the long-term success of their organizations. We’ve helped:

Brink create an accessible voting education app to help all communities engage in the political process
Tyson Foods adopt design thinking to concept, prototype, and launch innovative products quickly
Northwestern University research facilities perform and advance clinical researchMore than 25,000 people think big and participate in Chicago Ideas Week
A nonprofit understand what “belonging” means to their 200 global chapters
A homecare startup to connect caregivers with clients and their familiesAn IoT medical device manufacturer prototype hardware and software to help patients recover from spinal surgeryFamilies dealing with tragedy connect with resources and each other

But the work is just part of what makes Table XI a rewarding place to be. We support  each others’ interests—whether volunteering with AIGA, organizing a UX Strategy Meetup, speaking at industry events, or learning new techniques and technologies. If there's something you're passionate about, we want you to pursue it so you can teach it to the rest of us. Our First Friday Design Talks, company Lunch & Learns, and weekly Group Practice Meetings are just some of the ways we create space for sharing, learning and professional development.

What We Offer
In COVID times, we’re all:
Working from home with a stipend for upgrades to your setup
Sheltering-in-place with zero travel or onsite client work
Communicating and collaborating with tools like Mural, Miro, Notion, Slack, and a lot of Zoom

Everyone on our team gets:
Equitable, competitive salary
Quality health insurance
Paid parental leave and flexible paid time off
401k plan, including employer matching
The option to work fully remote
We take equality seriously.

Our mission
SecurityTrails strives to make the biggest treasure-trove of cyber intelligence data readily available in an instant. We work relentlessly to empower experts so they can thwart future attacks with up-to-date data, proprietary tools, and custom solutions.

A Security Beast Built Bit By Bit
We started because we were tired. Tired of combing through domain lists and forensic data manually, tired of searching through numerous sites for all the data we needed. We patiently waited for the perfect tool, but it never came. Our solution had to be vast, fast, and able to update daily — so we assembled a talented team and built it from scratch.

SecurityTrails was founded in June 2017, and from the very start it was decided that it would be a fully remote team. What began as a team of three people based in the US has grown into a team that currently counts 30 individuals. And that’s not even taking into account the number of contractors we work with, living and working across the entire globe.

Status is the gateway to the decentralized web. We’re building the tools and infrastructure for the advancement of a secure, private, and open web3. With the high level goals of preserving the right to privacy, mitigating the risk of censorship, and promoting economic trade in a transparent, open manner, Status is building a community where anyone is welcome to join and contribute.

As an organization, Status seeks to push the web3 ecosystem forward through research, creation of developer tools, and support of the open source community. Our core products include open source, Ethereum-based apps for mobile and desktop that give users the power to chat, make payments and browse the decentralized web. One of our goals is to transform our current chat functionality into a group chat competitor to Discord and Slack, but with the difference of being 100% decentralized, strongly censorship resistant (e.g. so that even ourselves are unable to censor any usage of our platform), privacy first, and utilizing open Ethereum token standards to manage permissions, incentivisation and monetization.  Status also develops foundational infrastructure for the Ethereum ecosystem as a whole including the Nimbus ETH 1.0 and 2.0 clients, the Keycard hardware wallet, and the Waku messaging protocol which is a continuation of Whisper.

Who are we?
We're a remote team made up of ~75 core contributors and a growing number of community members scattered around the globe. We care deeply about open source software, 100% of our software is open source and our organizational structure has minimal hierarchy and no fixed work hours. We believe in working with a high degree of autonomy while supporting the organization's priorities.

The role
We're growing our mobile development team. Join us in building a fully decentralized, censorship resistant, privacy first group chat platform that leverages the Ethereum blockchain to enable individuals and groups worldwide to communicate and transact with one another freely without restriction.

Status is looking for an UI Engineer to join our mobile development team who will work closely with Design to transform UI specifications into beautiful, smooth, performant and near pixel perfect interactive interfaces. The ideal person will be comfortable working on features end-to-end, has an eye for design and visual detail, enjoys working with designers as well as developers, and who can transform reused UI patterns such as list items into reusable UI components.  The ideal candidate will love finessing UI implementations to the highest levels of quality and will care deeply about things like code cleanliness, reusability, maintainability, performance, and UI layout accuracy - as well as doing whatever needed to create a best-in-class user experience for Status’s users.

Willingness to both learn and share your knowledge with others, product-orientation, and making sure all team members are aligned when developing new features, will make you successful in the role. Status is a fast-paced, flat organization, working on cutting edge blockchain and decentralized messaging technologies in a dynamic landscape. We look forward to meeting you!

Some of the responsibilities include:
  • Implement new features end to end
  • Collaborate closely with the Design team around both the designs and the implementation of the designs
  • Craft eye catching UIs and propose improvements to our code base
  • Sense checking with team and prioritizing work from our backlog

You should have:
  • Experience implementing first class mobile user interfaces
  • Eye for detail; point us to completed implementation work
  • Experience with native iOS UI development
  • 3+ years of experience working on complex mobile applications

Bonus points if you have:
  • Experience with React Native
  • Experience with native Android UI development
  • Strong experience with CSS and CSS Flexbox Layout
  • Some experience with any of the following programming languages: Go, Clojure, ClojureScript, Java in Android development, Objective C, Kotlin, Swift.
  • Exposure to designing structured UI components and libraries
  • An interest in decentralization and blockchains

Hiring process:
  1. Introductory conversation - People Ops team
  2. Team Lead + UX Research
  3. Technical Task
  4. Peer Panel Interview - Core Engineer + Design team
The steps may change along the way if we see it makes sense to adapt the interview stages, so please consider the above as a guideline.

Status compensates people with above average salaries in fiat or crypto, plus a grant of Status Network Tokens vesting over a three-year period. More info on SNT here:

  • Intimate knowledge of the whole web stack; you understand how all the pieces fit together (front-end, database, network layer, etc.) and how they impact the performance of your application.

Every new team member changes the team.

We love to learn from each other and people who know things we don’t are highly welcome. And even though we are almost 70 people we aim at putting the individual first when taking decisions, establishing processes, etc. You’ll find that from day one, your work will make a difference and will be highly valued.

There are no meaningless tasks and you’ll soon realize that the company is full of people who are passionate about their jobs. Our strong culture of failure helps us stay up to date and try new things.

Even though we’ve been fully remote since 2014, we still like to meet in person twice a year at our onsites (make sure you check out our Instagram ;) ) as well as at conferences and events (as soon as they start again).

Continuous learning is important to us - we foster this through bi-yearly personal development talks, a budget for training/certifications/coaching as well as regular feedback talks.
Becoming part of Giant Swarm means that, by extension, you also become part of the Cloud Native community. We actively contribute to upstream projects and our quarterly hackathons will give you space to work on out-of-the-box projects. Occasionally, when we, as a team, want to fully focus on one project, we scratch all meetings and routines for a certain time to better focus during our hive-sprints.

  • We don't count holiday (our team members take between 25-35 days off on average)
  • Choose your own hard- and software
  • As a company that has almost, if not more, kids than employees, family-friendliness is crucial to us and paid parental leave is a no-brainer.
  • Healthcare compensation
  • Fixed monthly budget for buying cat pictures or your mobile phone contract/ co-working space if you are boring ;)
  • We aim to be fully transparent (finance, salaries, communication, etc.)

We failed in exactly describing our way to approach important company elements that can be described with ‘buzzwords’ such as agile mindset, cross-functional teams, self-organization, value of the individual or trust & teamwork. However, we truly care about them, we live them and we constantly iterate on them. Some snippets about how we do this are posted in our blog but by far not all of them.
